Nursery FAQs

At what age can my child start nursery?

We welcome children to Nippers Nursery at the start of term after their 3rd birthday, either September, January or after the Easter holidays.

How much or as little can my child attend nursery?

Child may join our nursery for one to two days per week up to full time. The number of days can be increased during the course of the year. The exact arrangements can be discussed prior to joining and will depend very much on each individual child.

Do you cater for children who require special diets?

We provide a snack children to eat during the nursery session. This includes water or milk to drink, fruit and vegetables and a range of other healthy foods. We believe that snack and mealtime is a chance to sit and socialise, so our nursery children eat with school pupils.

We have a fantastic catering team who will do their best to meet any special dietary needs the children may have. Meals are ordered in advance and there is always a vegetarian option available.

You can let us know about any dietary requirements during enrolment and talk to one of our team to ensure we keep your child safe and healthy.

Does my child need to wear school uniform?

No, children at Nippers Nursery do not need to wear a uniform but we do have school t-shirts, jumpers and fleeces that are available to buy from D2C Signs in Wadebridge.

Children will sometimes get messy or dirty in nursery, so please dress them in clothes and shoes that they can run around and play in freely. It’s best not to send them in their best clothes.

Children can be more independent if they wear clothes they can take on or off themselves. Velcro shoe fasteners and elastic waistbands are easy – laces, lots of buttons and belts are difficult for young children.

I want my child to come to this school, what do I need to do?

Nippers Nursery is well integrated into Port Isaac Academy and so this is a fantastic way for your child to become familiarised with the school and the grounds.

If you are looking for a place for your child, we would love to show you around our amazing school. Please call our school office on 01208 880494 to arrange a visit.

If you have a child born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022, you will need to apply for a reception place by 15 January 2026.

We have 12 places in our foundation stage for September 2026.

The school participates fully in Cornwall Council’s fair access protocol and the co-ordinated admissions schemes for starting school and applying for places during the school year.
