At Nippers Nursery, learning is all about exploration, discovery and joy. We believe that the early years are a magical time when children are naturally curious and eager to learn – and we’re here to nurture that spark every step of the way.

Learning through play

We understand that children learn best when they’re having fun. That’s why our curriculum is play-based and child-led, giving each child the freedom to explore their interests while developing important skills in communication, social interaction and problem-solving.

We value imagination and creativity and seek to create a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning through a vibrant continuous indoor and outdoor provision, alongside trips, visits and regular outdoor learning sessions.

A curriculum that builds foundations

Our experienced team have crafted a rich and stimulating learning environment that supports every child’s development. 

Our curriculum is therefore the cultural capital we know our pupils need so that they can gain the knowledge, skills and understanding they require for success. They can only do that if we embed the right habits for learning through the Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning – Play and Exploration, Active Learning and Creative and Critical Thinking. This all takes place in the context of a safe and nurturing school environment where each individual child is known, and their learning journey is unique to them.

Learning in nature

We make full use of our wonderful outdoor spaces, including The Lookout, our new sand and water garden. Whether we’re planting seeds, investigating mini-beasts, or storytelling under the trees, outdoor learning is a key part of our daily rhythm.

Wellbeing and belonging

We prioritise emotional development, helping children feel safe, confident and valued. We help children build resilience and form positive relationships with both adults and their peers.

Embedded in the learning, children are taught how to show the Port Isaac way, working together and being kind, safe learners in order to meet the high expectations for behaviour.
